15 Transparent Cavafic

“15 Transparent Cavafic”
Introductory notes

The “15 Transparent Cavafic” are a series of 15 faces worked on latypes of Lychnite. Lychnite is the expired before centuries Parian marble, unique for its delicacy and transparency, which gave birth to the great masterpieces of ancient Greek sculpture. In fact, these latypes are of particularly excellent transparency.

Concerning these left overs of Parian marble, nature has granted them with the shape, the size and the color, which centuries have put on their surface, this “old rust”.
In the process of the emergence of form through such material, a dialogue with it is required, bland and respectful.

The tools used are the same three basic tools, used by ancient Greek sculptors – the needle, the deslidiko and the chisel. The names of the sculptures of this cycle, refer to persons from the poetry of the Alexandrian poet Cavafy. Simos Varrias, my son, created excellent photos of these 15 sculptures.
